Respirator Fit Test Qualitative and Quantitative Respirator Fit Testing in Kansas City

Mitigating respiratory conditions in the workplace is more important than ever. For workers who encounter potential hazards on the job, OSHA requires a respirator fit test be completed annually. Fit testing may also be required for a new job or to gain access to a particular site.

Qualitative Respirator Fit Testing is a simple and effective solution for ensuring a proper respirator fit when using an N95 or half-face respirator. Our providers are certified to carefully evaluate the seal between a respirator and the face to mitigate the occurrence of an air leak. An improper seal can compromise the safety of the worker and expose them to dangerous agents. Per OSHA guidelines, this test is accompanied by a Respirator Medical Evaluation Questionnaire to ensure an employee is medically capable to wear a respirator.

Quantitative Respirator Fit Testing is a more thorough type of test. Quantitative testing uses a computer to count the actual number of ambient particles capable of penetrating the space around respirators. This test can be utilized for all respirator types including N95, half-face, and full-face respirators. Quantitative testing provides an objective and numeric measurement of the respirators fit. Fit test results confirm if a mask will provide the right level of on-the-job protection needed. Per OSHA guidelines, this test is also accompanied by a Respirator Medical Evaluation Questionnaire to ensure an employee is medically capable to wear a respirator.

What to expect with your Respirator Fit Test?

What to expect with your Respirator Fit Test?

Respirator fit testing is used to ensure the mask you are required to wear for work fits your face properly. You will need to bring the specific mask you'll be wearing on a day-to-day basis for the test. For the fit test, you will first learn how to safely don your mask. While wearing a specialized hood with a clear front, we will then disperse a small amount of test agent. Once it is determined that you're able to taste the agent, the testing process will commence. We will go through a series of movements to ensure a proper fit. A proper fit will prevent you from being able to taste the agent. If needed, changes or adjustments to the mask used can be made.

Common agents used:
