Functional Capacity Evaluation
A functional capacity evaluation (FCE) is used to determine a person's ability to participate in work or activities of daily living. Aculas offers two standardized evaluations that deliver results in objective performance-based reports. Typically an FCE is performed for individuals after an injury to determine their fitness to return to work. Often times an attorney will use an FCE as a resource to help with a workers' compensation case settlement.
An FCE report would include:
- Overall physical demand level
- Summary of job-specific physical abilities
- Summary of performance consistency and effort
- Job match information
- Adaptations to enhance performance
- Treatment recommendations
What does an FCE entail?
Functional capacity evaluations typically require 4-6 hours to complete depending on the client's capabilities, pain levels and impairments and require these tests: lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, sitting, standing, walking, balance, stair climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, fine and gross motor testing, sensory, submaximal cardiorespiratory testing, consistency of effort testing, heart rate testing, full-time work tolerance and outcome questionnaire testing.
